Full Support Bras
Over the years, as I have fitted so many ladies in these wonderful bras, I have developed a few ‘sayings’ to get across the importance of a Full Support Bra. Firstly, let’s agree, that there is nothing wrong with a ‘party bra’ if you can find a reasonable fit in your size. These bras are intended for special occasions and to be worn for a few hours. They are not intended to be worn everyday while you are at at work, exercising or chasing the kids. For these activities, you need a full support healthy bra. I understand that we have been conditioned for generations not to spcnd money on ourselves and certainly not a bra that no one sees. Others may not see your bra, but they certainly see the results of a bad fit! As well, you FEEL the results of a bad fit.
A proper fitting bra is one of the best investments you can make. It affects almost every facet of your health from breathing, to circulation and posture. Every blouse or top will look better when the breast is positioned properly, not drooping and digging into your shoulders or your underarm tissue. When you wear a proper full support bra, you stand taller and appear more youthful. When your bra is digging in your shoulders or riding up your back, it is difficult to be in your best mood. Women also suffer from heat rashes because the breast ’sits’ on the chest wall and there is no air circulation. These rashes are not only painful but can cause harm to our delicate breast tissue.
If you are a runner or participate in sports like basketball, baseball etc, it is important to have a full support bra. I often see groups of women running for a good cause on a weekend morning but their breasts bouncing to the beat of their feet! The breast moves in a figure 8 position when you are running. This motion has two negative implications. The first is the breast pain caused by tension on the skin and connective tissue and number two, breast sag where repeated loading leads to permanent stretching of the supporting structures of the breast. There are two popular support bras used for running. The first is a compression type bra that keeps your breast pressed flat, thereby repositioning the centre of mass and impeding circulation in the upper body. The second is the Encapsulation bra which contains moulded cups that hold each breast separately and allows independent movement of each breast. Current research shows that the best bra for support is the encapsulation bra-like the TAB Bra-no matter what your cup size. The TAB Bra has no elastic straps or wires. The breast is fully supported by the ‘shelf’ inside the bra. This removes the weight of the breast from your shoulders-what a relief!
WHY IS THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM SO IMPORTANT?
The body depends largely on the lymphatic system to collect and dispose of the body’s damaged cells and toxins. It does this by modifying a portion of the body’s blood plasma to a colorless liquid called lymph which travels throughout the body seeking to collect damaged cells and toxins. As it links itself to impurities it finds, the lymph travels to the lymph nodes which filter out the toxins and wastes for disposal. The clean filtered lymph returns back to the body for further usage. The axillary (underarm) lymph nodes are closest to the breast. 97% of the lymphatic fluid that drains the breast is filtered by these important underarm nodes.
The position in which breast tissue is positioned is very important for allowing proper lymphatic drainage. When the tissue is directed forward with help from proper support provided from underneath the breasts, the axillary nodes are less likely to become pinched or compressed, and thus less likely to compromise healthy drainage.
When the delicate tubules transporting lymph to the axillary nodes are clamped shut on account of pressure from an ill fitted bra or underwie support, natural drainage of the breast tissue is compromised. The nodes can “back up” sometimes causing lymphatic fluid to collect with puffiness experienced in the underarm area.
Bras like the TAB bra are designed to address health dangers such as these. The ‘shelf’ design gently raises the breast tissue from underneath, in contrast to a conventional bra which pulls the breast tissue upwards from the shoulder straps above. The TAB bra has no underwires to cut off circulaion or lymphatic flow. The TAB bra has directional guides that help to direct the tissue from under the arms back to the front, which increases lymphatic flow and circulation. It also has no elastic fabric in the straps. Such features matter especially to women who understand and value the health benefits of proper breast support, especially as it relates to healthy lymphatic drainage.
DANGERS OF UNDERWIRE BRAS
There are certain areas of concern that are the perogative of women. The Bra is the most obvious difference and the most important for appearance and health. No matter the breast size, a proper bra is important. For women with larger breasts the issue is more critical because of the weight of the breast and how it affects the posture as well as circulation in the breast.
Women like bras that are attractive and support well as this eliminates fatigue and pain on the shoulders and back. This is why the underwire bra gained such favour. However, these bras creae eal and insidious problems for women. All underwires are made of a plastic coated metal. It is this metal that causes problems.
How Can that be?
In his article, Chinese Lessons for Modern Chiropractors, Dr. George Goodheart- the father of Applied Kinesiology – spoke of his discover called the “Antenna Effect.” He found that it is possible to tape a small metal ball onto an Acupuncture Point and accomplish longer term stimulation to that point. Those little balls are now called AcuAids and are used by thousands of doctors daily. This was a very important discovery.
Like those little balls, ANY metal that is constantly on a given point on the human body MAY cause problems. One critical factor is WHERE the point is and WHAT that point ties to in terms of the human psychophysiology.
THIS IS THE PROBLEM- The underwires in the underwire bra fall directly onto two very important NeuroLymphatic Refleses. The one under the right breast goes to the Liver and Gall Bladder. The one under the left breast goes to the Stomach.
How it Works
These reflexes, like all AcuPoints, follow the Law of Stimulation. In the beginning of timulating a point, it is stimulated-often causing an increase in associated function. Later on, this continued stimulation causes sedation of that point and and a decrease in its associated function. It’s a mechanical thing. If a woman keeps the metal UnderWires on top of hose reflex points, over time that WILL mess up the functioning of the associated circuits- Liver, Gall Bladder and Stomach.
The Solution.
Obviously, these underwires must be removed from the body. There are choices to be made.
You can shop for a bra without wires. However, they give little support especially to the larger breast. Without support the breast sags and causes poor lymphatic drainage and a very ‘frumpy’ appearance. Fitted clothes do not look right because the breast is not supported in its proper place.
The TAB bra gives support without wires. This bra is your everyday healthy bra that helps you maintain breast health and good posture. Underwire ‘party bras’ are OK for occasional wear but not for everyday. Life comes down to the choices we make and then living with the results. There are precious few things we can do for ourselves that can make a meaningful difference to our health and wellbeing. As with ANY change needed in our established lifestyle, this one requires a little effort. However, it is REALLY worth doing.
